He who sits in the heavens laughs

He who sits in the heavens laughs

Read: Psalms 2, Acts 4:24-31
Extra Credit: Psalm 119

God's Chosen People

Psalms 2:1-3

1 Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,

3 "Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!"

4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

Ripped from the headlines: "Arabs are laughing at the Iran attack"

Psalms 2 context is speaking of time surrounding the Tribulation and the end of it when Christ sets up His Kingdom on earth, but in the Acts verses the church is praying about the persecution they were just a part of and praising God for that persecution.  It is a sign that God was actively involved with His elect. Do you see that He is actively involved with Israel today?

Luke 21:29-32

29 Then He told them a parable: "Behold the fig tree and all the trees;

30 as soon as they put forth leaves, you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near.

31 "So you also, when you see these things happening, recognize that the kingdom of God is near.

32 "Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all things take place.

33 "Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.

In this passage Jesus is talking about the nation of Israel, and as you know Israel as a nation has been scattered since A.D. 70 until 1948.  Many people believe that the "generation" speaks of roughly 70 yrs but that is not really the case, it actually speaks of this generation meaning once this regathering has taken place and the signs that proceeded that (read Luke 21 for context) they will not be re-scattered again. And do you know that since October 2023 (first attack against Israel) there has been a immigration movement of Jews back to Israel.

Speak the Word of God with Boldness

Acts 4:31

31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.

Application

The Acts Church was praying about the persecution they were encountering, this persecution of Christians has gone on since that "day of Pentecost" till now, we are seeing persecution spilling into Israel now, and just as God has promised in His word, it will not pass away.  So too this generation of Israel will not either.

Now is the time to read God's Word, apply it to your life, speak it boldly.  The time is short, we could be mere hours away from His return for the bride, that's you my christian brothers and sisters! God is waiting for the "Fullness of the Gentiles come in"  If you are speaking the Word boldly you could be speaking to the last one that believes, and up we go! Praise God!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-19

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we recognize the time is short, we pray for your people Israel that you keep them, protect them.  We look forward to your kingdom to be here on earth.  Help us to speak boldly your Word today, so that we may usher in the last believing saint and take us home.  We long to be in your presence and worship you for all eternity.  Thank you for forgiving us our trespasses, and protect us from the evil one. In Jesus name, Amen

What we have seen and heard

What we have seen and heard

Read Acts 4, Luke 24:44-49

Acts 4:20

"for we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard."

In this passage, Peter declares that they cannot cease speaking about what they have seen and heard—not because they are not willing to be silent, or are trying to be in disobedience to the priests, but because God commanded them to testify to what they have experienced. This command to testify echoes throughout the New Testament, where believers are also commanded to share their faith boldly.

Peter's statement recalls another section in Luke's gospel, specifically Luke 24:44-49. Here, Jesus opens the disciples' minds to understand the Scriptures and commissions them to be witnesses of His suffering, death, and resurrection, as well as bearers of the message of repentance and forgiveness.

Luke 24:44-49

44 Now He said to them, "These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled."

45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,

46 and He said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,

47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.

48 "You are witnesses of these things.

49 "And behold, I am sending forth the promise of My Father upon you; but you are to stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high."

Then He opened their minds to the Scriptures, and not many days later they were "clothed with power from on high" - Acts 4:8.  We too are filled with this same spirit, which is perfectly righteous and with power inside each Christian who believes in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  We can proclaim that good news to everyone we come in contact with.

Witness - what we have seen and heard

Consider this question: regarding the person Jesus of Nazareth—the Messiah, the Lamb of God, our Redeemer, your personal Lord and Savior—what are you witnesses of?

Imagine yourself in a courtroom, called to testify about your belief in Jesus as your Redeemer and Lord. What personal experiences can you testify to regarding Him? (The way things are going this may not be too far off - see my next blog post)

Ask yourself, "What am I a witness of?" What recent encounters have you had with God? Take some time to reflect on how God has revealed Himself to you lately—whether it be in the past year, six months, or even this month.

Begin with Prayer

  • Ask God to reveal Himself to you today
  • Ask Him for opportunities to share your faith
  • Ask Him for discernment to reveal the schemes of Satan

Action items

  • Write down what He has revealed to you today
  • Praise Him for it, share it with others
  • And always, get into His Word so He can speak to you, and train you up to discern good and evil (Heb 5:32)

Final Note

If you find yourself struggling with whether God is using you or if you are a Christian...

Well then...

You are.

Trust God, if you have those types of questions then you are, you can take that to the bank, literally take it to the bank or the store or your neighbor.  Boldly declare I am a Christian, a child of God.  Do you want to know who He is?

2 Corinthians 10:7

7 You are looking at things as they are outwardly. If anyone is confident in himself that he is Christ's, let him consider this again within himself, that just as he is Christ's, so also are we.

Consider the words of the hymn "I Know Whom I Have Believed":

"I know not why God's wondrous grace

To me He hath made known,

Nor why, unworthy, Christ in love

Redeemed me for His own.

But "I know whom I have believed

And am persuaded that He is able

To keep that which I've committed

Unto Him against that day."
